Blacktown Youth Services Association is a Not-for-Profit community organisation that provides a range of services and programs to all young people aged between 12 - 24 in the Blacktown LGA. BYSA has been a cornerstone youth centre in Blacktown since 1988. There have been many changes to the service over the years but one thing remains the same, we are here to support young people!
Youth HQ: Community Catalyst
Youth HQ: Community Catalyst addresses social disadvantage to improve young people's well-being. Co-developed with young individuals and backed by over 30 years of frontline experience, the model is based on evidence and best practices.
The model focuses on five key elements: Power, Person, Passion, Purpose, and Potential. Each element aims to build specific skills and resources necessary for young people to transform their lives.
The Elements
Power: Encourages young people to make informed choices, fostering autonomy and ownership of their journeys.
Person: Provides tailored support to address each young person's unique needs, ensuring they feel valued and understood.
Passion: Connects young people to their interests, enhancing engagement and motivation.
Purpose: Creates pathways to education and employment, guiding them in identifying their career aspirations and developing a clear roadmap for achieving their goals.
Potential: Builds confidence through mentorship and skill-building, empowering young people to contribute positively to society.
Social Integration Tiers
The model includes three tiers of social integration: Family, Friends, and Community. These tiers represent distinct domains of social relationships that are integral to the holistic development of young people.
Family: Focuses on developing nurturing and supportive relationships that foster trust.
Friends: Builds outward-focused relationships providing essential support systems, enhancing social engagement and a sense of belonging.
Community: Facilitates the development of broader social connections, empowering young people to actively participate in their communities.
How This Works
The elements and integration tiers create a comprehensive support system, with gradual community integration ensures a safe and supportive transition for young people into the wider community. By connecting young people with key stakeholders, the model facilitates their growth, development, and long-term success whilst simultaneously overcoming their barriers.
Blacktown Youth Services Association (BYSA) would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the Darug Nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging and extend that respect to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who share this space with the 48 family. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
